Everyone has different goals for their spaces! Some people want art to be the focus, other people want entertainment (like TV, sports, etc), and others value conversation in their homes! This is not to say you cannot value them all, but if you are looking for a way to make the conversation flow in your home, we have some tips for you!

Tip Number One: Furniture Arrangement / Type

In order to encourage conversation, arrange your furniture in a way that everyone can comfortably see each other! A simple way is to have two chairs facing a sofa, with a coffee/cocktail table in the center! This design can be mimicked in several ways, with a loveseat or additional chairs!

Another great layout, specifically for rooms where conversation is the sole purpose, is multiple armchairs around the center coffee/cocktail table!

Two identical-facing sofas would create a chic and balanced look! On the other hand, lots of charm and life could be brought by creating this look with two different sofas! Mixing patterns and fabrics can give a space a whole different look!

Of course, the coffee/cocktail table will add color, texture, and help fill empty space in the room; it is also extremely functional for guests! All this conversation and they are BOUND to need a drink!

But wait, we didn’t mention a sectional? Got a beautiful piece you want to add? Easy! Just try to add chairs in a circular angle around the opposite side of the sectional! That way people can sit across from you and have a conversation. This is a GREAT layout for someone who has lots of friends and family to chat with!

Tip Number Two: Distance is Key

Distance is key when creating the perfect conversational space. Too close, and you feel stuffed like sardines. Too far, and you are screaming and straining to hear one another. The sweet spot for allowing both space and intimacy is approximately three feet, but feel free to spread out more. Just not over 8-10 feet, because then you may need some tin cans and a string.

Distance from the wall to the furniture is also a big help! The wall creates an echo, making the conversation harder to hear. Pull your furniture off the wall, open up the space and the conversation!

Tip Number Three: Comfy People Talk

Make sure the space is overall inviting! Add some decor to the walls, let the natural light in (if possible, lamps help too!), pillows, and throw blankets! An amazing conversational piece is a fireplace! Doesn’t have to be real, one of our console pieces works great! But who doesn’t love cuddling up next to a fire, chatting away with their people?
